Bite of the Week: Holm Made Cardamom and Vanilla Toffee

You may already know that saffron is the most expensive spice in the world.  But did you know that vanilla and cardamom are second and third on that list?  The high price for each correlates with the fact that they are both labor intensive to grow and harvest. 

For vanilla, each flower has to be hand-pollinated, and any pods produced must then be handpicked and dried.  Cardamom pods have to be harvested by hand at just the precise moment—too soon and the flavor could be compromised, while waiting too long could result in the pods cracking and spilling their precious seeds.

Knowing all of that makes this toffee experience feel incredibly indulgent.  This isn't the overly sweet, stick-to-your-teeth, kind of toffee from your past.  These pieces are the perfect balance of crunchy and sweet, and the flavor of the cardamom is enough to intrigue without becoming overwhelming.   I am in love with this combination, and with one bite, you will be too!
